Mrs. Gerekou has served as the Deputy Minister for Culture and Tourism, as well as the Deputy Minister for Culture for the Greek Government. She was also elected as a member of the Greek Parliament for Corfu four times. Mrs. Gerekou holds a degree from the School of Architecture of the University of Rome, Italy and has worked as an architect for the Hellenic Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning, and Public Works. In addition, she has had a significant career in acting. She has acted in many plays for cinema, theater, and television, was a founding member of the Cultural Movement for the Ionian Islands and has served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Ionian Cultural Center since 2011.
